No 255.

Angel

Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 17th April, 1935.

I have the honour to request, in accordance with

Colonial Regulation 281, your approval for the expenditure of the sum of $10,001 in supplementation of Head 28 (Miscellaneous

Services) sub-head 40 (Rent Allowances, European subordinate

officers), on page 89 of the Estimates for 1934.

2.

The amount provided under this sub-head was $80,000.

The supplementation now required is partly on account of the rise

in exchange (these allowances being based on a fixed sum less a

percentage of the officer's salary, and the higher exchange rate

causing the deductions to be smaller than was expected), and

partly on account of an underestimate.

3.

The expenditure received the unanimous approval of

the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council on 4th April,

1935, and was adopted by the Council as item No.155 of the

Report on 11th April, 1935. I have accordingly authorised

the expenditure in anticipation of your approval.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

سير

Governor, &c.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P.
